[Review] PS Portal: My Wife’s Surprise Christmas Gift for Remote Play

My Wife’s Surprise Christmas 2025 Gift

The PS Portal

I had decided that the PS Portal wasn’t worth buying, judging it to be poor in terms of necessity and value for money. Since it doesn’t have native game execution capabilities and is strictly for PS5 Remote Play at home, I felt the price—which is close to 300,000 KRW—was excessive.

However, there were many times I wanted to watch OTT on the main TV while still playing PS5 games. During those times, I would connect my iPad and the DualShock controller I used for the PS4 via Bluetooth to use Remote Play. But playing while looking down at the controller often gave me a sore neck and led to poor posture.

For the past few days, I had been constantly searching for the PS Portal on the used market (like Danggeun Market). Then, one day when I returned home from work, I was completely surprised to find the PS Portal sitting in front of the small Christmas tree we had set up.

It was a surprise early Merry Christmas gift from my lovely wife! She even thoughtfully included a pouch, so I can safely take it with me when traveling.

Having searched relentlessly on the Danggeun app, Coupang, and Naver, I was so excited by the surprise gift that I think I was running around everywhere.

I immediately unboxed it and started the charging and update process. The 8-inch touch screen was larger than I expected.

That night, I played games on the PS Portal until midnight. It was wonderful to have a large, clear screen and the comfortable grip of the DualSense controller, allowing me to play while someone else watched TV or while lying down in bed.

After playing, I carefully placed it back into the pouch and put it away neatly. 😁 Once again, a big thank you to my wonderful wife! 👍
